Alysa Liu Parents ( Nationality and Ethnicity )

Now We talk About her Parents and Family. Her parents always supported her career.Liu was born on August 8, 2005, in Clovis, California, to Arthur Liu, an attorney who emigrated to the United States in the 1990s at the age of 25 from a small mountain hamlet in Sichuan, China, after earning degrees in China. He went on to receive his M.B.A. and J.D. degrees in California. Liu is the oldest of five children, and she was conceived through an anonymous egg donor and a surrogate mother, just like her siblings (a sister, Selina, and triplets Joshua, Justin, and Julia). Even after her divorce from Arthur, Liu’s father was still married to Yan “Mary” Qingxin, whom Liu and her siblings identify to as their mother and who functions as their legal guardian. Selina, Liu’s younger sister, used to skate but stopped after losing her first competition, according to Liu and her father.

Liu went to a Chinese school for three years before enrolling at the Oakland School for the Arts, which at the time had a figure skating emphasis. She began homeschooling at her father’s law office in between practices when she began missing too much school due to competition travel. Liu is slated to graduate during the 2021-22 academic year, using the same online program as other skaters, including fellow Bay Area skaters Karen Chen and Vincent Zhou.

Professional Career

Liu began skating when she was five years old, when her father, a Michelle Kwan enthusiast, took her to the Oakland Ice Center. Laura Lipetsky, a former figure skater who skated under Frank Carroll, was her first and childhood coach, and she immediately progressed to private sessions. Liu’s first teacher, Laura Lipetsky, began teaching her when she was 512 years old, and Liu’s first choreographer, Cindy Stuart, began working with her when she was similarly young.

Liu competed in her first skating competition as a juvenile in 2015, placing seventh at the Central Pacific Regionals. She became the youngest female skater to win the intermediate gold medal at the 2016 U.S. Championships, winning by less than a point. She came in first after the short program, with two triple Salchows, the first of which she accomplished in combination with a double toe loop, giving her a “program-high 7.00 points.”

Liu participated as a beginner at the 2018 Asian Open Trophy in Bangkok, Thailand, in August 2018. She won gold by more than 10 points over the silver winner, Sara Honda of Japan. In the free program, she landed a ratified triple Axel, making her the youngest skater in history to do a clean triple Axel in competition, joining Tonya Harding, Kimmie Meisner, and Mirai Nagasu as the fourth American female skater to do so.

Liu competed in the Peggy Fleming Trophy, a competition for senior-level US figure skaters in which skating components are judged “from an artistic standpoint.”She finished second, behind Karen Chen, with a score of 118.61.

Liu spent June in Egna, Italy, working with Italian coach Lorenzo Magri to enhance her jump technique with the support of the ISU technical specialist. She also mentioned the presence of elite Italian skaters Matteo Rizzo, Daniel Grassl, and Gabriele Frangipani in the camp, as opposed to her Oakland training facility, which she said lacked skaters who could accomplish more challenging parts. Magri was later became a permanent member of her coaching staff.

Liu was then invited to skate in the exhibition gala, but she hadn’t prepared an exhibition program because she hadn’t expected it. American ice dancer Jean-Luc Baker choreographed a program for her on site to “Loco” by K-pop group Itzy, with a dress borrowed from Spanish ice dancer Olivia Smart.

Vladimir Putin authorized an invasion of Ukraine just days after the Olympics ended, and as a result, the International Skating Union has barred all Russian and Belarusian skaters from competing in the 2022 World Championships. This had a significant impact on the women’s field, which had been dominated by Russians for the previous eight years. In the considerably more open competition, Liu was considered a podium possibility. [79] She finished fifth in the short program with a flawless performance.

Liu attempted a triple Axel in the free skate and landed it with an underrotation. She again underrotated the second portion of a jump combination, but she landed six clean triple jumps to finish third and win bronze. She is only the second American woman to win a medal at the World Championships since Ashley Wagner in 2016, and the first since 2006.Liu announced her retirement from figure skating on Instagram on April 9, 2022, indicating that she was content with her career, had achieved her goals, and was “going on with life.”Her early retirement made her the first American women’s singles skater to not compete in a second Olympics since Sarah Hughes, who won gold in 2002.
