On December 11, Verdejo made a second successive defence of his WBO Latino title in Puerto Rico against Brazilian Josenilson Dos Santos (27–3, 17 KOs). A criminal complaint filed by the FBI accuses Verdejo of punching Keishla Rodríguez within the face and injecting her with a syringe crammed with an unidentified substance bought at a housing project complex. It alleges he then bound her arms and feet with wire and tied an important block to her before throwing her off a bridge at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Rodríguez was found during a lagoon near the U.S. territory’s capital Saturday, a few of days after she was reported missing. She was identified Sunday via dental records, Puerto Rico’s Institute of Forensic Science said during a statement.Verdejo and his attorneys previously declined comment, and police said the boxer didn't originally cooperate and refused to answer questions.
