After graduating from law school, Jill went to work for the United States Department of Justice, where she was the first female lawyer to work there. She rose to prominence after handling the Watergate affair as its prosecutor from 1972 to 1974. She was also introduced as a close friend of Leon Jaworski, the special prosecutor. Because one of her coworkers made an unsuitable statement in the press, she was assigned the task of cross-examining Rose Mary Woods, US President Richard Nixon’s secretary. Jill Wine gained even more notoriety once she figured out how Rose Mary Woods had mistakenly omitted a piece of the Watergate recordings’ 18 and 12 minute gap while transcribing it.
