Professional Career
From 2017 to 2021 she was the councillor for Ward 3,which includes the communities of Country Hills, Country Hills Village, Coventry Hills, Harvest Hills, and Panorama Hills.Prior to her term as a city councillor, Gondek sat as a citizen member of the city’s planning commission.On October 18, 2021, she was elected the 37th mayor of Calgary. Gondek was sworn in along with the incoming city council on October 25, 2021,becoming the first female mayor in the city’s history.
Jyoti has been active in her ward through volunteer roles on the Northern Hills Community Association board for 5 years and 2 years on the board of Vivo for Healthier Generations. She further served as a volunteer citizen member of the City of Calgary’s Planning Commission for 4 years and other municipal committees like HealthYYC and the Community Representation Framework Task Force.
In the broader community, Jyoti was a board member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Alberta, Design Talks Institute (d.talks) and Parent Support Association.
