Professional Career

Campbell, Luke Donald MBE is a former World Number One professional golfer from England. He primarily competes on the PGA Tour in the United States, but he is also a member of the European Tour. Donald had a fantastic year in 2011, winning a number of tournaments and awards. He won the PGA Tour money list as well as the European Race to Dubai to complete a historic double, becoming the first player to win both the PGA and European Tour money lists in the same year.

He won the PGA Player of the Year award as well as the European Tour Golfer of the Year. He was also the first Englishman to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year, the Vardon Trophy, and the Mark H. McCormack Award for the most weeks at number one in a calendar year. In 2011, he was awarded honorary life membership in the European Tour for his achievements.

Donald rose to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking after winning the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in May 2011. Between May 2011 and March 2012, he was world number one for 40 weeks before Rory McIlroy briefly surpassed him. The pair then traded the number one spot four more times in the next two months.

Donald reclaimed the world number one ranking on May 27, 2012, after successfully defending his BMW PGA Championship title. He remained number one for another ten weeks before being dethroned by McIlroy. Donald has held the World Number One position for a total of 56 weeks and has spent over 200 weeks in the top ten.

In 2012, he received an MBE for his services to golf. Donald has eight top-10 major championship finishes, including two third-place finishes. He is one of only two golfers to hold the world number one ranking without having won a major championship, the other being Lee Westwood.

Donald competed in eight PGA Tour events in 2018, missing the cut in all but two of them. T37 at the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club was his best finish. He finished 214th in the FedEx Cup, which lasted the entire season. Back pain forced him to take several months off in April 2018. Donald has received a significant medical exemption for the 2019 PGA Tour season. He made 15 appearances and earned 335.891 FedEx Cup points.

Donald, who was competing in only his second event of 2019 after returning from injury, was in contention at the Valspar Championship. He shot 67-70-70 over the first three rounds to start the final round three shots behind the leader. He was temporarily one off the lead after eagleing the first hole, but he struggled the rest of the way, finishing with a 73 and a T9 finish. Donald rose from 919th to 548th in the world rankings as a result of this result. Donald finished T10 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship later in the season.
