Peterman accepted an invitation to participate in the 2017 Senior Bowl on November 16, 2016.During Senior Bowl practices, Peterman impressed scouts and media by displaying his good size, accuracy, mobility, and powerful arm. During the week, he met with representatives from the New Orleans Saints and was praised by NFL analysts Daniel Jeremiah and Charles Davis.

Peterman appeared in the Senior Bowl on January 28, 2017, and completed 16 of 23 pass attempts for 153 yards and a touchdown in the North’s 16-15 loss to the South. During the game, Peterman was a member of Chicago Bears head coach John Fox’s North team. Peterman was one of 15 collegiate quarterbacks invited to attend the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He completed the majority of the combine drills but skipped the bench press. In the three-cone drill, Peterman finished fifth among quarterbacks, seventh in the 40-yard dash, and tied for sixth in the vertical jump and short shuttle.For the Week 10 game against the New York Jets, Peterman was benched in favor of another mid-season signing, Matt Barkley.

The Bills defeated the Jets 41-10 behind Barkley’s leadership.With the Bills entering their bye week and Allen expected to be ready for their next game, the Bills released Peterman on November 12th. He finished his career at Buffalo with four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing), 12 interceptions, and a passer rating of 32.5.

Following workouts with the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos, Peterman was signed as a member of the Oakland Raiders’ practice squad on December 19, 2018, after head coach Jon Gruden had previously praised Peterman’s play in college.On January 1, 2019, Peterman signed a reserve/future contract with the Raiders.
