Kyrgios won the first set in a tiebreak in his first-round qualifying match at the 2012 Australian Open, but Mathieu Rodrigues cruised through the second and third sets to defeat him. Kyrgios then continued his season on the 2012 ITF Men’s Circuit, competing in tournaments in Australia, Germany, Japan, and Slovenia.
