Earning Sources and Private Jet
Following graduation, Pera, who adored Steve Jobs, landed a job at Apple Inc., where he tested the company’s Wi-Fi gadgets for compliance with FCC guidelines for electromagnetic emissions. Pera found that the power sources used by Apple’s Wi-Fi devices to send signals were considerably below FCC limitations while working at Apple.
He reasoned that increasing their strength would extend their transmission range to dozens of kilometres, allowing Internet access in locations where telephone and cable providers do not reach. Pera decided to construct his own low-cost, high-performance Wi-Fi module after his managers at Apple dismissed his concept.
Pera spent the following year in his flat, developing prototypes at night and on weekends. He was ready to establish his own company by early 2005, and he left Apple to found Ubiquiti Networks. On June 11, 2012, ESPN.com reported that Michael Heisley and Robert Pera had reached an agreement in principle to sell the Memphis Grizzlies. On October 25, 2012, the Memphis Grizzlies were officially sold to Pera.
The Grizzlies made the NBA playoffs in each of the two seasons prior to Pera’s purchase of the team, and in each of the first five seasons of his ownership. The Grizzlies won a franchise-record 56 games in Pera’s first season as owner and reached their first-ever appearance in the Western Conference Finals. During Pera’s first two seasons as GM, the Grizzlies won more playoff games than they had in their previous 17 seasons in the NBA. ( Source Wikipedia and News Websites )
