TikTok, like other social networks, has expanded into e-commerce to increase revenue opportunities. TikTok currently offers a TikTok Shop shopping option in select markets, including the United Kingdom and Indonesia, allowing creators and merchants to sell products through the platform. It has also collaborated with Shopify to make shopping possible on the platform.
Source CNN : While it appears that every social media app is copying TikTok, TikTok now appears to be following Amazon’s lead. According to several job postings on TikTok’s hiring site and LinkedIn page, the company appears to be looking to establish a new logistics and warehousing network in the United States to support its e-commerce efforts.
TikTok appears to want to go even further with the latest job postings, which were first reported by Axios. TikTok may be looking to provide logistical support to build what it calls “a brand new and better e-commerce experience” rather than simply serving as a platform to reach customers.
“By offering warehousing, delivery, and customer service returns, our mission is to help sellers improve their operational capability and efficiency, provide buyers with a satisfying shopping experience, and ensure TikTok Shop’s rapid and sustainable growth,” the company stated in a job posting.
According to one job posting, the company is looking for someone to “build the new fulfillment service from scratch” and be “responsible for the business development of TikTok e-commerce logistics in US.”
Many of the positions are based in Seattle, which also serves as Amazon’s first corporate headquarters. Amazon’s vast logistics and delivery network transformed it into a central tool for numerous merchants, allowing it to offer a diverse range of products with expedited delivery.
A TikTok spokesperson declined to comment on the new roles. According to a spokesperson for TikTok Shop, the company is “focused on providing a valuable shopping experience in countries where TikTok Shop is currently available across Southeast Asia and the UK, which includes providing merchants with a range of product features and delivery options.”
