Couch took over as the team’s starting quarterback in the second game of his rookie season, replacing Ty Detmer. He started five seasons for Cleveland, eventually facing competition from journeyman backup Kelly Holcomb in his final two seasons.

Couch was released on August 18 after failing to make the third string. The Jaguars released former starters Byron Leftwich and Lester Ricard the following week, leaving them without a third-string quarterback.

Couch appeared in an episode of The Jersey called “Cheers, Jeers, and Tears” in 2002, where after crying over her responsibilities as cheerleading captain, Hillary Lighter (played by Brianne Prather) uses a magical jersey as she jumps into his body to get advice/lessons from professional cheerleaders on new cheers, much to the surprise of the coach and the other players.Couch currently works as an analyst for Fox Sports South on the weekly show SEC Gridiron Live.
